Broadus's Rebuke

Former professor W.O. Carver wrote of a particularly punchy conversation with John Broadus that helped bring him to study at Southern:

"I assured him of my determination to take the Seminary course. He warned me, among other things, of "A pair of blue eyes can get between a man and the seminary course," and thwart his good intention. I told him that I had seen blue eyes more than once and they had not interfered with my pursuing my purposes. Then he replied: "Yes, and I've heard good men talk before."

Carver came to Southern and taught for over forty years as a professor of missions.
